The future status of English as the global language is assured?

This is a draft of my homework.

Some people believe government should protect local language from English, while other people consider the use of English should be justified due to bring about great benefit to our society. Personally, although it is worth considering to managing rapid spread of English, it is inevitable that English will continue to strength his position as a sole global language for the following reasons: the existence of huge English learner, the immersion in local culture, the business necessity.
Firstly, the number of people speaking English is the one of the largest in all languages and continues to be increasing. Although Downie (2004) points out that several politicians in non-English speaking countries submits the law against “linguistic invasion” in English, the trend which people want to use English has been intensified steadily. For example, nowadays the people speaking as first and second language are calculated as around 700 million. Although this population is inferior to that of China, which is known 1.2 billion, The Economist (1999) estimates that 1.5 billion can use English. As a result, people tend to use English in order to benefit from the majority group. Therefore, this trend will strength the status of English as global language.
Secondly, English culture has been immersed in a fact of life in many countries. Even though some countries such as Poland are apt to file a law against using English as occasional situation in order to conserve local culture (Downie, 2004), it can be seen that there is no use in restricting English. For example, 80 % of library resource on the Internet is written in English(Downie, 2004). In other words, using English contributes to access to the huge knowledge. As a result, people are willing to contact sort of information by English. Therefore, it is not possible that government succeed in banning the use of English by law.
Thirdly, English is essential for companies to earn much more profit because nowadays it is only practical means of communication in business world. Even though Downie indicates that Brazil urges companies to use Portuguese in business, not English so as to secure their language, this ignores the importance of English in business. For example, globalization expands the border of new market, which results in the fact that companies tend to convey their employees there in order to open up new markets. Without English, they could not deal with the customer’s needs.
To sum up, even though countries attempt to restrict the use of English in order to secure local language, it is unavoidable that English probe to be the sole global language in terms of the follows: the enormous speaker in English, the penetration in culture, the intensification of business needs.
